Shelby's Ceramics Portfolio

My story vessel is based on the story, Rapunzel. I made a vase-shaped pot using the coil method. The flower was made by cutting out petal-like shapes in a slab and attaching them to the inside edge at the top of the vase. The flower was inspired by the magical flower in the story of Rapunzel and the vase shape goes along with the overall mood of the story and movie. I plan to paint Rapunzel's dress design on the background of my vessel, and paint smaller images from the story all around the pot. 

This project is meant to be a globe. This project took around three days to build. For the ball, I wrapped and rolled out a piece of clay around a ball of condenses newspaper. I then constructed a base for my globe to sit on.

I made this mug by creating a template, making a slab, and assembling the mug. The handle is a wood-like texture, resembling a tree. The snowy scene with presents and a snowman gives this mug a nice Christmas theme.

The slab method of ceramics was used in this project. I rolled out six different sized slabs and imprinted a wood-type design onto my slabs. I assembled the box, and I added a handle in the shape of a lily on a lily  pad... to go al ong with the nature theme. 

This is my Alebrije painting. I used several different colors and tried to represent the beautiful, vibrant culture behind Alebrijes and the souls they guide through life. The animal I chose to paint is a piglet, who has many colo rful d esigns on his body. 

I started this piece by making a template of how tall and wide to make it. I then made a slab, rolled the indention on top of it, and attached the two sides of the cylinder together. I pressed the bottom of the cyli nder  to get a three-legged  cylinder pot. 

With the coil pot method, our assignment was to create a piece that was 11 inches tall. I used coils, dots, and braids to complete my task.
